Man, 18, arrested in connection with double shooting at fair

LADSON, SC (WCSC) - A man was arrested Saturday night after sheriff's deputies say he shot and wounded two people at the Coastal Carolina Fair in Ladson.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Rashan Dantzler, of Walterboro, was arrested in connection with a shooting at the fair just before 11 p.m.

"I heard the gunshot go off so I turned around and saw about five or six people in a circle," said Don Norman, who witnessed the shooting.

According to the Charleston's County Sheriff's Office, shots were fired several hundred feet from the Live 5 house near gate 4.

"I guess everybody thought it was a firecracker at first because it was right after the fireworks show," Norman said.

Deputies are investigating the motive in this shooting, but believe that the victims and suspect know each other. Both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries and one of the victims was transported to a local hospital with multiple gun shot wounds. The other victim was treated and released.

"They just took off running and then police came running up behind them," Norman said.

Deputies recovered a weapon that is believed to have been used during the incident.

Dantzler is charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of assault in the second degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of violent crime. His bond hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Police contained the situation quickly and the fair closed on schedule at 1 a.m.
