The Crowne Plaza Hotel will be the first to come to the Charleston area. The job fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Charleston Convention Center at 5055 International Blvd.
The new Crowne Plaza Hotel is scheduled to open in early December. The hotel is looking to fill 70 full and part-time jobs. Positions range from housekeeping to working at the front desk.
Interviews are based on a first come first served basis. All applicants are required to bring two copies of their resume, two forms of I.D and three references.
The current national unemployment rate is at 9 percent and South Carolina's unemployment rate is 11 percent. Monday's job fair is a sign of good things to come for a positive economy in Charleston.
The unemployment rate in the Lowcountry is 8.6 percent, a little lower than the national average, but the hospitality and leisure field is looking like it may be on the rise.
A new trend is showing in the hospitality field with new hotels being built and more cruise ships scheduled to come to the Charleston area.
With more businesses coming to the Charleston area like Boeing, Verizon and Southwest, combined with the busy Charleston Port, the economy in the Lowcountry could turn sooner than later.
With so much interest in the economy as of late, this is definitely a positive sign for the Lowcountry and a positive sign for those looking for employment.
