NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Members of Joint Base Charleston will honor former Wing Commander Brigadier General Thomas Mikolajcik with its Run the Runway 5K on November 10. The run will also raise funds for research into ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a sickness Mikolajcik struggled with until his death at age 63.
Mikolajcik was instrumental in Charleston being named the operational home of the Air Force's C-17 Globemaster III program sixteen years ago.
As a way to raise funds leading up to the event, enlisted ranks on the base have been selling t-shirts. As of this writing, troops have raised about $1,000 for the South Carolina ALS Association.
