COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Two loaded log trucks collided on Highway 21 south of Ruffin in Colleton County Tuesday afternoon, killing one man and blocking the highway for several hours, authorities said.

According to Colleton County fire and rescue personnel, one of the log trailers had overturned onto the second, crushing the cab of the second truck. The driver appeared to have died instantly, officials said.

Rescue personnel had to cut away portions of the damaged cab to reach the driver. They were unable to free the man, but could confirm the man was dead.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey identified the victim as 28-year-old Johnny Sellers of Branchville. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner's office Wednesday conducted an autopsy, but have not released the results.

According to officials, a logging company working nearby brought in several pieces of equipment to help clear the scene. After the logging crew removed the trees from the damaged cab, EMS crews were able to use hydraulic tools to reopen the cab and extract Sellers' body.

The driver of the first truck was not injured, officials said.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
