Medal of Honor recipient charges vets to 're-engage, recommit'

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - In an annual ceremony commemorating the efforts of US military veterans, Medal of Honor recipient Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston asked the veterans in attendance to "re-engage and recommit."

The event was held Thursday at Park Circle and attended by Mayor Keith Summey and members of the City Council. Livingston, a retired Marine, served as the keynote speaker.

"It gives us a chance to reflect on the service and sacrifice of all the men and women who have served the nation," Livingston said after delivering his address.

Many of the veterans in attendance were so moved by Livingston's words they were ready to go back to battle, they said.

Summey thanked the veterans for their service. "You have made our lives worth living and we will never, ever forget you."

Prior to the 10:30 a.m. event, veterans gathered at the Felix Davis Community Center to trade stories of service with each other and the general public.
