Kingstree woman arrested on embezzlement charges

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Williamsburg County employee has been arrested for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars in public funds, according to officials with SLED.

Jennifer Timmons, spokeswoman for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, said Peggy Williams Singeltary, 40, of Kingstree is charged with embezzlement of public funds.

An arrest warrant states that Singeltary allegedly stole more than $38,000 while employed as an Administrative Assistant with Williamsburg Co.'s Water and Sewer Department between September of 2007 and March of 2010.

SLED is investigating the allegations at the request of the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office.
