SC family finds dead squirrels, gets text messages

LYMAN, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina family is trying to figure out why they found two dead squirrels in their mailbox and later received text messages about the animals.

Multiple media outlets reported the squirrels were found Saturday night at their home in Lyman.

A Spartanburg County sheriff's report states the family's daughter got a text message Sunday asking how they liked the mailbox surprise. The girl asked who was sending the message and got a response that more is coming. A later message said "you know what you did."

The girl says she doesn't know who's sending the messages, which came on a phone with a Washington, D.C., area code.

Deputies are investigating the case as harassment and possible stalking.
