CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two men were arrested Monday night after police responded to a distress call of shots being fired in a downtown Charleston neighborhood.
Eugene Stanley Rollerson, 20, and Samuel Phillip Smiley, 19, were charged with possession of cocaine base, unlawful possession of a handgun, and trespassing.
According to the police report, police arrived as Rollerson and Smiley were trying to flee the scene of the reported shooting. Officers were able to catch up to the two suspects and order them to the ground.
During a search of the area, officers found a white rock-like substance that tested positive for cocaine and a Highpoint .38-caliber semi-automatic handgun. Both of the men were on the "no trespass" list for the public housing area at Hanover and Johnson streets, where the report originated.
Both men were transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
