SC House meets to pick officers, set rules

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's House of Representatives is meeting to elect a speaker and other officers.

The two day organizational session begins Wednesday. House members will pick seats, adopt rules and hold elections.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell is running for a third full term. The Charleston Republican says he has vote commitments for at least 115 of the House's 124 members. Hartsville Republican Jay Lucas appears to be unopposed for House's second ranking position as speaker pro tem.

On Thursday, House members will get committee assignments.

The session begins for the House and Senate in January.
