CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to the scene of two residential fires Wednesday. One occurred in Walterboro and the other in North Charleston.
The Red Cross provided assistance for 7 seven victims in the two incidents. The Red Cross met the immediate emergency needs of each of the families, including four adults and three children, living in the households.
The Red Cross provided temporary emergency lodging for the fire victims, as well financial assistance to replace the food, clothing and shoes that were lost in the fires. At the scene, the Red Cross provided the fire victims comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies. In addition, the Red Cross is assisting victims of the fires in replacing medications destroyed by the blaze.
The Red Cross has assisted 995 individuals needing aid due to home fires in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper Counties since Jan. 1.
