National Guard to hold change-of-command ceremony on bridge

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - For drivers crossing the Ravenel Bridge Thursday at 2:30 p.m., the drums of war are not beating in the Lowcountry.  C Company, 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, will hold a change-of-command ceremony at the Mt. Pleasant and Charleston city line.

Soldiers led by outgoing commander Captain Mark McGee, will march from the Mt. Pleasant Armory to the center of the bridge.  Another group of Soldiers will march from the Charleston side of the bridge led by the incoming commander, Captain Gene Hindman.

Once at the center of the bridge, the traditional Passing of the Colors will symbolize the change of command from McGee to Hindman.  McGee will pass the unit colors to Lt. Col. Fred Pasley, Commander, 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, thus relinquishing his command.  Pasley will then entrust Hindman with the unit colors and command of the unit.

The act of passing the colors marks the official change of command.  McGee has commanded C Company since August of 2009.
