GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - A worker pushing coal around a hole at Santee Cooper's Winyah Bay Generating Station found himself, along with the bulldozer he was using to move the coal at the bottom of a large hole around 8:00 Friday morning.
According to Santee Cooper spokeswoman Mollie Gore, the pile of coal the man was working on gave way, and the bulldozer slid backwards into the 25 foot deep hole. The driver was never buried, and was pulled from the hole when rescuers attached a rope to a conveyor belt that runs over the coal pile.
Gore said the man is in good condition, but no further information about the bulldozer's driver was released.
Santee Cooper crews expect to lift the bulldozer from the hole by Friday afternoon.
