NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - American Red Cross volunteers provided assistance for a family of six in North Charleston on Saturday.
The home of five adults and one infant, suffered major damage in a fire late this afternoon. The volunteers assisted the family with their immediate needs.
The American Red Cross provided temporary housing and funds to help replace food and clothing destroyed in the fire. They were also given formula for the infant, and articles for the adults which included personal items such as toiletries and medications. Volunteers will follow up with the family to assure that their long-term needs have been met.
Since the beginning of 2010, the American Red Cross has assisted 1,008 victims of home fires in its seven county Region, which includes Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties.
