Riverbanks Zoo annual lights display going LED

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Riverbanks Zoo has gone green in its annual Christmas light display and wants to help visitors do the same.

The zoo's 23rd annual Lights Before Christmas display has been converting the 1 million twinkling light display to LED since 2007 and wants to encourage others to do the same.

This year, the zoo will be giving out $3-off coupons for EnergyStar LED holiday lights to visitors who bring in their old incandescent bulbs - working or not - for recycling.

The lights display is from 6 to 9 p.m. each night from Nov. 19 to Jan. 2. The zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
