Christmas tree lots open up around Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Christmas is more than a month away, but stores around the Lowcountry have started to put out Christmas trees and trimmings.

Many families begin to decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas tree lots and stores are beginning to open as the holiday season kicks off.

There are ways to make your tree last, especially if you are buying one early.

Once you get it home, put the tree in water as soon as possible. Water is the key to keeping it fresh.

Also, cut off about a half inch of wood from the trunk before putting the tree in a stand and use a stand that fits the tree. Don't whittle the sides to make it fit. The outer layers of wood are best at soaking up water and shouldn't be removed.
