NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Government has been awarded the 2010 Outstanding Planning Award for Large Jurisdictions by the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association.
The award will be presented to Charleston County Council during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23. Dan Pennick, Charleston County Zoning & Planning Director, originally received the award during the association's annual fall conference in Pawleys Island.
"This is a great achievement for Charleston County and for our planning program," Pennick said.
The award was given to the County for its "Comprehensive Plan Update – Guiding the Future for a Lasting Lowcountry." Adopted by Charleston County Council in November 2008, the 10-year update of the Comprehensive Plan is the future vision for preservation and development in Charleston County.
The Plan establishes strategies for the county to pursue in order to maintain and enhance its high quality of life and unique landscapes with a focus on strategies that county government can achieve.
