Fort Jackson to serve 14,000 at Thanksgiving feast

FORT JACKSON, SC (AP) - Fort Jackson is treating more than 14,000 soldiers, retirees, civilian employees and family members to its annual Thanksgiving feast.

Army officials said the post's 12 dining facilities have begun serving more than 4,000 pounds of turkey, nearly 3,000 pounds of ham and 1,400 pies to its guests.

Officials said preparations began more than a month ago.

Commanders and their staffs were to serve a start-off meal Wednesday evening to begin three days of celebration.

The dozen dining sites have been decorated in Thanksgiving Day themes to highlight the holiday.
