MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County is looking into buying the site where the financially struggling Carolina Nurseries sits. A special meeting of County Council is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30 to discuss borrowing money to make the deal.
County Supervisor Dan Davis said the meeting is to discuss the issue only, no decision will be made Tuesday evening.
Berkeley County will make an offer to the owner to continue the business as a tenant. The county will look at buying the property even if Carolina Nurseries goes out of business to spur development in that area of the county.
Council is looking to borrow up to $16.75 million to buy the site near Moncks Corner. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Berkeley County Administration Building.
