Folly's head cop Boatwright retiring

FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - The head cop on Folly Beach is stepping down after 35 years of service in law enforcement, he announced this week.

He has served the seaside city for the last for years.

He began his law enforcement career in January 1975 as a police officer with the City of North Charleston Police Department where he served as a patrol officer and-subsequent to promotion to the rank of Sergeant-as a patrol function supervisor.

Additionally, for the past 13 years, Boatwright has served as an assessor and assessment team leader with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

In this capacity, Boatwright has traveled around the United States evaluating median and large size law enforcement agencies -- mostly Sheriff's Offices -- to determine whether they meet applicable CALEA standards for either initial accreditation or re-accredited status as conferred by the Commission.

The standards apply to all areas of law enforcement operations, administration, and support services.

Boatwright is an original and continuing member of the Lowcountry/Charleston County WMD Response Team.
