Woman sentenced for trafficking counterfeit handbags

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Murrells Inlet woman has been sentenced in federal court for trafficking in goods using counterfeit marks Tuesday, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

Teresa Ann Kaufman, 33, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and three years supervised released.

Kaufman pled guilty to the crime, and evidence established she and an accomplice, who is waiting to be sentenced, were involved in operating a website in Myrtle Beach, selling counterfeit handbags under various names such as Level21Inc.com and ReplicaBlue.com

The handbags were made to appear to be real items from designers such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Chanel, Dooney & Bourke, Prada and Gucci. Some of the items were described as being "replicas", and all of the items were priced well below the retail price of the designer products.

Items purchased over the internet were shipped from Myrtle Beach.
