BERKELEY COUNTY - A haze that has hung over the Lowcountry for most of Thursday is being caused by a prescribed burn in Berkeley County.
The National Weather Service says the plume of smoke can be seen on satellite. The source of the smoke is a 400-acre prescribed burn in the Cainhoy Plantation Road area of Berkeley County.
Smoke from the prescribed burn has drifted into parts of downtown Charleston and Mt. Pleasant.
Prescribed burns are used for clearing debris from forests in an effort to renew forest resources.
