Bluffton Town Council to vote on carriage rides

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - Bluffton Town Council is set to vote on rules for horse-drawn carriage businesses in the town near Hilton Head Island.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that council members are set to vote Tuesday on what would be required to operate tours in the town. Alan and Kay Ulmer say they plan to start Old Town Carriage Company with one buggy.

Some residents opposed to the plan convinced the council in October to postpone a vote. They cited concerns over possible traffic accidents, congestion, and animal waste.

Supporters say the carriages would brighten the old town area and many merchants like the idea.
