Man arrested on drug, gun charges after gunfire heard at high school basketball game

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a man on drug and gun charges after responding to reports of gunfire at a high school basketball game.

Steven Jerome Jackson, 21, of North Charleston, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a handgun and possession with intent to distribute.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found three men walking away from the scene. They were called back by officers, but one of the men, Jackson, said he didn't want to because he was scared.

According to the report, the officer asked the three men about owning a gun and Jackson tried to flee. The officer chased him down, deployed his taser and detained him.

During a search, the officers found a .38-caliber handgun, several small bags of marijuana and a cell phone with text messages from people asking for drugs, the report stated.

Jackson was transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
