Murrells Inlet bank employee charged with embezzlement

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – A Murrells Inlet resident has been charged with embezzlement by a Federal Grand Jury Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Cheron Lynn Herring McDowell, 31, was charged in a one-count indictment with theft, embezzlement or misapplication by a bank officer or employee.

The maximum sentence McDowell could receive is a fine of $1 million and/or imprisonment of 30 years.

Officials have not released details of the incident leading to the arrest of McDowell.
