WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Students at Drayton Hall Elementary are hoping to help Louis Wright, the baby allegedly beaten while his mother stood by and watched, have a merry Christmas.
Corie Glover's second grade class took time out of their holiday party Friday afternoon to remember the 20-month-old child who has spent the last several weeks at MUSC.
His condition has improved significantly and he is expected to go home with his aunt any day now.
Glover's class spent several weeks learning about holiday giving and this was the perfect time to help someone in need.
"We heard about the story and we wanted to do anything we could to make his holiday season a little brighter," Glover said.
Two students also donated their "slushie money" because they felt baby Louis could use the help.
"I brought him pajamas and some pants," one student said.
The class is hoping to bring the toys to the child sometime before Christmas.
The baby's mother, Shakera Wright, remains behind bars. She is charged with allowing infliction of great bodily injury to a child.
