LADSON, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County School District's Ingrid Dukes, principal of College Park Middle School, has been named the 2011 South Carolina Middle School Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). The award was made in a surprise announcement Thursday at the school.
Dukes was selected from an outstanding field of administrator candidates by a veteran panel of judges. Finalists for this award were: Benjamin Bragg from Thomas C. Cario Middle School, Charleston County School District, and David McDonald from Indian Land Middle School, Kershaw County Schools. The criteria used in the selection of the award are set by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Dukes is a product of the Berkeley County School District, having attended elementary, middle and high school in the Hanahan area, and graduating from Hanahan High.
"I am honored and overwhelmed to receive this recognition – it is truly an honor, and more than I could ever have imagined," said Dukes. "This award is a reflection of all the hard work and dedication of the College Park Middle students, teachers, staff and parents. I also owe a huge thank you to all those who have mentored me throughout my career. I am very fortunate to work in a county that has leaders who have helped me grow and improve as a principal."
