HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - Pamela Rogers still can't believe what she saw when she rushed home Tuesday -- the inside of her rental house was gutted by a fire. A mother of four and the wife of a deployed Fort Stewart soldier, she was at school when her realtor called. She said she would be shocked enough if it began accidentally.
"They said that somebody broke in and then set the house on fire," she told WTOC.
"When you have two points of origin with no obvious causes, that leads us to believe it was intentially set," explained Capt. Chris Johanson of the Hinesville Fire Department.
Rogers said she and her four kids are missing plenty from inside. She said the arsonists burglarized the place before they torched it.
"The TV, the computer, they even took the house telephone. The DVD player, there was a whole lot of other stuff," she detailed. "I'm getting more mad by the minute sitting here talking about it."
Outside, the family had a few clothes in a shed that survived. She hasn't reached her soldier husband in Afghanistan to give him the news.
She said as bad as it would be to steal from her and her kids and ransack their home, why someone would burn them out of a place to live this close to Christmas is beyond comprehension.
But she has the challenge of another occasion before that.
"My daughter's birthday is Friday," she noted.
She hopes people will keep their eyes open to anyone trying to sell her stolen stuff.
"It ain't in a box, it's not like they've got the stuff to it. It's not their's. Please do not take it. Call them cops on them," she implored.
Investigators said the state fire marshal's office will offer a reward for information leading to an arrest of the arsonists. Anyone with information is asked to call 912.876.4143.
