SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A driver turned on a officer and started punching and biting him during a traffic stop, according to the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.

It happened Friday night on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police arrested 21-year-old McArthur Adams after he attacked a police officer.

According to the police report, when the officer tried to arrest Adams he became combative, hitting the officer in the face. The officer fought back and the two ended up on the ground, that's when they say Adams grabbed the officer's baton and started biting him on the shoulder.

Eventually, Adams was restrained.

The officer pulled Adams over after he observed the driver-side tail light was out on Adams pickup truck, and that Adams had crossed the center line. As the officer pulled behind Adams the officer stated "the driver tossed a blunt out of the driver side window," according to police.

Police said that inside Adam's truck, officers found cocaine, marijuana, prescription pills and two handguns.

Adams was booked in the Chatham County jail and faces several charges, including obstruction of a police officer.
