WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Experts say frigid temperatures can lead to car problems.

We went to Black's Tire and Auto on Carolina Beach Road to find out how you can keep your car on the road and out of the shop.

Carl Brewer from Black's recommended having a pre-winter tune up with a professional. Brewer said they can make sure the belts, hoses and battery are in working order.

However, if you want to do-it-yourself, he suggested checking the antifreeze in your car. Brewer says that's vital because antifreeze not only keeps the car's engine cool while running, it also keeps the radiator from freezing during extreme cold.

He also recommends that you check the tire pressure because these cold temps can cause tires to deflate.

Brewer also said to check the belts, hoses and battery in your car. If you don't know how, it's probably best to call a professional.
