CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Highway Patrol officials said Monday that the driver who struck an interstate overpass Sunday has been charged in the incident.
Timothy Peakgler, 43, of Moncks Corner was charged for having an over-height vehicle. Highway Patrol officials said Peakgler was hauling a fork truck on a flat bed trailer, and the top of the fork truck struck the bridge.
Peakgler faces a $237.50 fine.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, falling debris from the overpass damaged six cars at mile marker 210. I-26 West was reduced to two lanes between Aviation Ave and Ashley Phosphate Rd.
The Department of Transportation has been notified along with the bridge inspectors.
