CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Mayor Joseph Riley will have a challenger as he seeks his tenth term as the City of Charleston's mayor.
Local author and long time Charleston resident David Farrow announced his candidacy for the office on his online blog Tuesday. Farrow was a one-time columnist for The Post and Courier.
Farrow acknowledges his chances of winning the city's top office are slim. Part of his platform includes serving only one term if elected, demanding an independent audit of the city's finances since 1976 when Riley first took office, and accepting only half of the mayor's salary, with the rest being donated to children's literacy causes.
Riley announced his intention to seek a tenth term on December 14. Farrow, so far, is the only announced challenger in the 2011 election.
