Aiken man arrested in shooting death

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - An Aiken man has been arrested and charged with murder after he went to the sheriff's office parking lot and called officers.

Multiple media outlets reported that 20-year-old John R. Ankeny of Beech Island was found dead in a home in Aiken on Monday night.

Police say 23-year-old Gary Means lived in the home and went to the sheriff's office parking lot where he called officers.

The first officer to arrive in the parking lot found Means with a gun, who put it on the ground when ordered to do so.

Officers then went to Means' home and found Ankeny's body.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.

It was unclear if Means has an attorney.
