ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the Townville man shot and killed by an Anderson County deputy after the man threatened his girlfriend and others with a shotgun.
Coroner Greg Shore told multiple media outlets an autopsy would be performed Wednesday on 53-year-old Jack Milton Snipes, who died Tuesday from a gunshot wound to the head.
Sheriff John Skipper says the deputy was escorting a woman to her home Tuesday to pick up personal items after an argument with Snipes.
Skipper says the deputy had told the man to go back in the house. The sheriff says the deputy fired when the man returned with a shotgun.
The sheriff would not identify the deputy, who is on administrative leave. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
