NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two men were arrested and charged with robbing a woman in her North Charleston home Tuesday.
Benjamin Jerome Heyward, 24, and Jared A. Gilliard, 24, were charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and 1st-degree burglary.
According to the police report, the 52-year-old female victim said two men came to her apartment and one of them said he had a gun. They made her turn around, and one of them put an object that felt like a gun to her back while the other said, "Put it to her head."
Heyward lives in the same apartment complex where he and Gilliard allegedly committed the robbery.
The two men tied her up with cords and electrical tape and stabbed her in the upper back thigh during a struggle, a police report stated. They left with a purple laptop, cell phone, leopard-print wallet and keys to her car, the victim told police.
Shortly after officers responded to the woman's home, an officer spotted Heyward and Gilliard walking near Tipson Street and approached them.
During a consented search, the officer said he found a leopard-print wallet with the victim's ID, credit cards and Social Security card in Heyward's back pocket and a set of keys that fit her car in his front pocket.
The two men were placed into the custody of the Charleston County Detention Center.
