CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A local single mom had her Christmas wish granted when she was given a new home after being homeless for the past year. Katie Tucker and her one-year-old daughter were staying with friends and family.
Last week the Charleston Housing Authority notified Tucker they had an open apartment for her. The Housing Authority works with the Florence Crittenton program to help single moms find housing. The Florence Crittenton Program helps pay rent, deposits, and bills until single moms can get on their feet.
"Without the help of the Housing Authority and Florence Crittenton, I don't know where I would be today, " Tucker said.
Tucker is currently looking for a job and looking to start the new year off right.
"That's my goal for the new year, to find a job and start making my own living," she said.
