Teen struck by garbage truck

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A teen on a bicycle was struck by a garbage truck Tuesday afternoon when he swerved into the path of the truck, Highway patrol officials said.

According to Cpl. Paul Brouthers, the accident happened at 4:30 p.m. on Azalea Drive near the King Street extension in North Charleston.

Brouthers said a 15-year-old boy was riding his bicycle and listening to his mp3 player when he swerved in front of a City of Charleston garbage truck.

The teen was taken to the Medical University Hospital. Brouthers did not have information on the teen's medical condition.

No charges will be filed against the truck driver, Brouthers said.
