No bond for SC tow truck operator in manslaughter

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - Bond has been denied for a tow truck operator investigators say he shot a man during a Christmas Eve dispute over a parking violation in Bluffton.

Multiple media outlets report that a judge on Tuesday denied bond for 27-year-old Preston Oates on a manslaughter charge.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says Oates was arrested Monday and charged in connection with the shooting death of 34-year-old Carlos Olivera. Prosecutors say Olivera was shot six times Dec. 24 when the two men argued about a parking boot that Oates had put on Olivera's minivan.

Sheriff P.J. Tanner says both men were armed at the time of the shooting. Before he was arrested, Oates told The Island Packet of Hilton Head that he had acted in self defense.
