Coroner: Teen found in North Charleston died of gunshot wounds

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston Police detectives are investigating a suspicious death after officers found a body early Wednesday morning. The coroner's office said the teen died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the coroner's office, the victim was identified as 19-year-old Marcques Armstrong. Details of Armstrong's death are not going to be released until an autopsy can be completed, the coroner said.

The details of the teen's death came from the coroner's office Thursday afternoon. Police said earlier in the day that Armstrong had been shot, but gave no details on how many times or where he had been struck.

According to police, officers responded to the 2000 block of Stone Pine Court at Saint Charles Place Apartments around 1 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a body on the ground in the area. Officers on scene discovered an unresponsive black male lying on the ground.

The incident is under investigation.
