Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain told WYFF-TV that officers were trying to stop the man around 10 p.m. Thursday after he turned his car around at a license checkpoint in Newberry County.
Chastain says the suspect's car was found about 30 minutes later, but he refused to pull over, running down an embankment as he tried to get on Interstate 26 near Clinton.

Chastain says a deputy fired at the suspect, grazing his head. The sheriff says the man should recover.
