CLOVER, SC (AP) - A man who authorities say was intoxicated and walking in the road has been struck and killed by a car in Clover on New Year's Eve.
Clover Police Capt. David Dover told The Herald of Rock Hill that 43-year-old Lawrence Sloan Jr. was walking in a southbound lane of U.S. 321 carrying a case of beer around 6:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a 2005 Kia.
Dover says Sloan appeared to be walking home from a nearby convenience store. Both the police and coroner's office say his alcohol use contributed to his death.
Dover says the driver that struck Sloan was not injured and has not been charged.
