SC Consumer Affairs moving to smaller offices

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is moving to save some money.

Agency officials told The State of Columbia they are moving to offices on Devine Street in Columbia that are about half the size they are in now.

The department has cut its staff in half to 34 workers over the past couple of years and had 10 days of furloughs last year as its budget shrunk.

Director Brandolyn Pinkston says the agency hopes by lowering its rent it can avoid more layoffs and help more people.

She says the number of complaints for the consumer advocacy agency has increased in the down economy.
