WASHINGTON, DC (WCSC) - South Carolina's first black republican congressman in more than a century will be taking office this week.
Tim Scott will be sworn in as the congressman from the first district of South Carolina Wednesday at 6 p.m. The swearing in is in Washington D.C.
Congressman-elect Scott has already been appointed to both the committee on transportation and infrastructure and the committee on small business.
"The first order of business for all of us I think is to take a look at the financial insanity that's been created by the Obama administration with overspending," Scott said after winning November's election. "We've gotta reign in that spending and the way that you do that is that you just create priorities so that we know what the federal government's priorities should be."
