JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The James Island man who shot his wife more than 20 times in the shower and left her to bleed to death was denied parole Wednesday.

The South Carolina Parole Board denied James Michael Watson's fifth bid for freedom Wednesday.

He was sentenced to prison on Sept. 25 1985 for killing his wife, Cindy Summer Watson. At the time, there were no truth in sentencing laws, which means Watson goes up for parole every year unless he is released or dies in prison.

The South Carolina Parole Board also denied Watson's bid for parole in November 2009.
