Man charged in New Year's Eve Greeleyville slaying

GREELEYVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are charging a man with murder in a New Year's Eve shooting death in Greeleyville.

Williamsburg County deputies told WBTW-TV that 41-year-old Paul Gregory Baker was arrested Friday shortly after officers found the body of 54-year-old Daniel J. McCarty in the road in front of Baker's home.

Investigators say Baker called 911 twice around the time of the shooting, first to report he had been assaulted and someone took his truck, and again to report the suspect returned and he shot him.

Baker is being held at the Williamsburg County jail. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
