Beaufort County sheriff's hound dog Sam retires after decade

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A hound dog responsible for dozens of arrests in Beaufort County has retired.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday that 11-year-old Sam had spent 10 years on the department's tracking team.

Sam is 50percent bloodhound, 25 percent red-bone hound and 25 percent blue-tick hound.

The department says Sam got two years of intensive training and then responded to hundreds of calls and was responsible for dozens of arrests.

Sam was placed with a family last week as he began his retirement.
