CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police have charged an 11-year-old James Island boy with burglary.
According to Charleston police, the boy was arrested in connection with a burglary Sunday on Harbor View Road and a burglary Monday on Nabors Drive.
The 11-year-old boy is charged with two counts of second degree burglary. He has been released to the custody of his parents, while he awaits a hearing in family court.
The juvenile was identified through surveillance video from the Harbor View Road burglary, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
In the first incident, the owner of the Exxon at 971 Harborview Road flagged down police after discovering vandalism to the property Sunday. When he later reviewed his security footage, he noticed a man breaking out the window of a service bay.
The victim also saw the man enter the store at the address and take cigarettes, candy and other items valued around $100. An employee at the store recognized the suspect as a regular at the store, but did not know his name.
The second incident occurred at the La Petite Academy, a day care center, located at 902 Nabors Ave. An employee at the day care told police that she noticed large amounts of black paint strewn throughout the interior of the business, on the floors, walls, carpets and furniture. The employee said that nothing was stolen.
