CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston County Detention Center officer was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting an inmate.
According to the State Law Enforcement Division, James Edward Scott, 45, turned himself in to SLED agents Thursday.
Scott is accused of pushing an inmate against a wall on Dec. 22, causing the inmate to fall in a laundry basket. The inmate was injured during the incident.
Scott is being charged with third degree assault and battery and misconduct in office and assault and battery third degree.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office asked SLED to investigate. Authorities say Scott has been placed on administrative leave without pay. Scott has been employed at the jail since Jan. 2008.
