BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - The future of the blue crab fishery in South Carolina is the topic of a discussion on the state's coast.
Clemson University assistant professor Michael Childress discusses the issue during a presentation Monday at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort.
Childress will discuss his efforts to model blue crab populations and locations. There has been a 30% drop in blue crab landings in the state during the past decades and Childress will discuss whether the decline can be reversed.
His research is funded by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium in partnership with the university.
