Sanford to split time between Beaufort, Charleston

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Mark Sanford plans to split his time between Charleston and his family farm in Beaufort County after he leaves office this week.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports Sanford mentioned his plans as he wound up a weeklong farewell tour of the state with an appearance on the resort island Monday.

Sanford leaves office Wednesday when Nikki Haley is inaugurated as the state's first female governor.

Sanford's ex-wife Jenny and the couple's children live on Sullivans Island.

Sanford says the high points of his administration were tax cuts and legal changes that made the state more friendly to business.

He joked that the low point has already been well covered, referring to his affair with an Argentine woman that cost him his marriage.
