Funeral service held for former Mt. Pleasant Mayor

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) – Funeral services were held Wednesday for former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman at the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

Hallman passed away Saturday at the age of 76.  He had Alzheimer's disease and stepped down from office in 2009.

A funeral procession started at 12:30 p.m. at Stuhr Funeral Home. People paid their respects including Mt. Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and former Congressmen Henry Brown and Arthur Ravenel.

"Harry Hallman is the type of person when you said 'Harry Hallman,' and your face lit up," Swails said. "He was the most exciting, energetic, wonderful, giving caring human being I have ever met in my life."

Hallman played a key role in the construction of the Memorial Waterfront Park and the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum, both in Mt. Pleasant.

Visitation for Hallman was held Tuesday at Henry Stuhr's Funeral Chapel on Mathis Ferry Road.
